Voting is open, West Perth,
The whole election runs by telephone and internet, from 8 a.m. this morning until 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26. If you’ve never voted this way, here’s the whole process, start to finish.
- Step one: find your Voter Information Letter. It came in the mail earlier this month, and it has your personal PIN on it. That letter also carries the voting phone number and the voting website — they’re only printed there, on purpose, so guard that letter like a password.
- Step two: pick your moment. Phone or computer, kitchen table or couch, it takes about five minutes. You can vote any time the window is open — early morning, lunch hour, 9 p.m. on a Tuesday. There’s no best day, only the day you actually do it.
- Step three: make your choices. In the Mitchell Ward council race, you can vote for up to three candidates for councillor. You don’t have to use all three, but you can.
Didn’t get a letter, or can’t find it? The Voter Assistance Centre at the West Perth Municipal Office, 160 Wellington Street in Mitchell, is there to help you get sorted, and the Clerk’s office can answer questions at 519-348-8429. Don’t sit it out because of a missing envelope.
One more thing, because it matters at my house: almost everything council decides — roads, snow, the arena, childcare space, what gets built where — lands within a few streets of where you live. This is the most local vote there is. Five minutes, from your couch, for the next four years of it.
Voting stays open until Monday, October 26 at 8 p.m. I’m Ben Davey, I’m running for Mitchell Ward council, and I’d be honoured to earn your vote.
Everything’s also laid out at BenForMitchell.ca/Election if you want it in one place.
