We’re into voting week, Mitchell, so a simple question: have you voted yet?
I ask because this election is easy to mean to get to. There’s no polling station, no Election Day lineup, no single moment where the whole town shuffles through a gym — just a letter with a PIN, a phone or a computer, and a window that quietly closes at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 26. Quiet deadlines are the ones that sneak past busy people, and I say that as a busy person.
So, the five-minute version, in case the details have gone fuzzy:
- Your Voter Information Letter has your PIN plus the voting phone number and website. Both live only in that letter.
- You can vote by phone or internet, any time until the window closes — it genuinely takes about five minutes.
- In the Mitchell Ward council race, you can vote for up to three candidates. Three seats, three choices.
Lost the letter or never received one? The Voter Assistance Centre at the West Perth Municipal Office, 160 Wellington Street in Mitchell can help, and the Clerk’s office is at 519-348-8429. A missing envelope is a solvable problem, not a reason to sit this out.
Here’s my honest pitch for doing it today instead of Monday: weekends fill up, work runs late, kids get sick, and 8 p.m. arrives faster than anyone expects. Future you, watching the results come in Monday night, will be glad present you spent five minutes this week. And if you’ve already voted — nicely done. Mention it to a neighbour. In a three-seat race decided by neighbours, reminders from actual humans move more votes than any flyer I could print.
Everything you need is at benformitchell.ca/election/. I’m Ben Davey, and I’d be honoured to be one of your three.
